The Incubation Centre (INC), a part of the MSC Malaysia Creative Innovation Centre (CIC) @ KL Sentral Cybercentre houses selected early stage growth creative multimedia content development companies.

Its main objective is to lead and maximize the potential and success rate of startup and emerging companies within the Malaysian Creative Multimedia Industry.

It provides a conducive environment where entrepreneurs can focus on the important aspects of building the groundwork towards establishing their business.

“From time to time, units of different sizes become available for incubatees to rent, including 2 x 229 sq ft and 4 x 111 sq ft sized units, so those interested should check with us,” said Yang Mee Eng, MDeC senior executive for Creative Multimedia Policy Department and Project Manager for the CIC.

The incubatee will be charged a monthly service fee of RM1.50 per sq ft and the units come with work desks, its power points and LAN connection for Internet access.

The Incubation Centre has two meeting rooms for up to 10 persons, which can be rented at RM90 per hour or RM500 per day and a conference room for 20 persons at RM120 per hour or RM800 per day.

IM Foremost runs a multimedia lab based in the Incubation Centre, with three desktops and portable workstations which incubatees, MSC Malaysia status companies as well as non MSC creative companies to use for ad-hoc creative multimedia projects. Students from local IHLs  that have viable creative projects are invited to use the lab facilities free of charge. This is part of the content development initiative by MDeC and supported by KL Sentral and IM Foremost.

Incubator veteran

Jaz Multimedia has been with the incubator since it began in March 2007, where it has focused on creating creative intellectual property (IP).

“We begin with an idea for a main product and type of IP,” said Jaz creative director Johari Aziz. “For example, if the main idea is a story, it can then be converted into an animation, script, visuals and so on which are creative multimedia,” he added.

For example, one of Jaz’s products is Palestine 3000 AD – a storyline which portrays Palestine in the year 3000, which may be more modern than today, while the current problems still remain.

“Incubation relieves a creative company from overheads so it can focus on being creative and I have no personal overheads of a car, a family, a mortgage and so on, so I can be successful with good ideas,” he added.

The Incubation centre is opened to seed level and start up creative multimedia development companies involved within the various petals of the creative industry such as games, animation, mobile content, post production and visual effects.
